In our ongoing effort to maintain a focused and productive learning environment, Tanque Verde High School (TVHS) will be reinforcing the Tanque Verde Unified School District (TVUSD) Cell Phone Usage Policy, effective March 17, 2025. Though this policy has been in place all year, we have observed a decline in compliance and want to take this opportunity to remind everyone of its importance. As outlined in the TVUSD Governing Board Policy, TVHS Student Handbook, and the TVUSD Code of Conduct, this policy is intended to minimize classroom disruptions and support student engagement in learning.

Cell Phone & Electronic Device Policy

Students may possess and use cell phones and other electronic devices under the following conditions:

  • Devices must remain off and out of sight in a student’s pocket, backpack, or a teacher-designated area during instructional time.

  • Use of devices during class is only permitted with teacher approval for instructional purposes.

  • Students will not be excused from class to make or answer phone calls. When leaving the classroom (for the restroom, water fountain, nurse visit, etc.), students must leave their phones in the classroom (with the teacher, in their backpack, or in a designated area).

  • Headphones, earbuds, or AirPods must be removed during class unless the teacher has expressly permitted their use.

  • Recording or transmitting speech, images, or communications of others is strictly prohibited without express consent.

Enforcement and Consequences

Students violating the policy may have their electronic device confiscated and be subject to disciplinary action (at minimum, required to check-in their phone with a TVHS administrator or designee upon arrival to school) .

We appreciate your support in maintaining a classroom environment that prioritizes learning and minimizes distractions. Please discuss this policy with your student to ensure compliance and a smooth transition. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the TVHS administration. Thank you for your cooperation.
