Monica Perez

Tanque Verde High School senior Monica Perez is making an impact far beyond the classroom. The 17-year-old student and student-athlete was recently elected President of the Pima County Teen Court, marking the latest milestone in a five-year commitment to leadership, service, and restorative justice.

Perez first became involved with Pima County Teen Court when she was just 12 years old. Since then, she has steadily taken on greater responsibilities within the organization, serving as a Teen Attorney and Teen Court Treasurer before being elected by her peers to serve as President.

Pima County Teen Court is a youth-led restorative justice program that allows young people to learn firsthand about the justice system while helping their peers take accountability for their actions, repair harm, and make positive choices moving forward. Teen volunteers serve in meaningful roles including attorneys, jurors, clerks, bailiffs, and program leaders.

For Perez, what began as an opportunity to get involved has grown into a passion for law, leadership, and public service. Her experience with Teen Court has also helped shape her plans for the future. She hopes to become an attorney and ultimately pursue a career as a judge.

Her election as President is especially meaningful after years of growing within the organization and developing the skills necessary to lead alongside other young people committed to making a difference in their community.

“Monica’s accomplishment is a wonderful example of the many ways our students are finding opportunities to lead and serve beyond the walls of Tanque Verde High School,” said Principal Dr. Amy Cislak. “We are incredibly proud to see one of our Hawks investing so much of her time and talent into an organization that empowers young people and strengthens our community.”

Perez’s involvement exemplifies the leadership, initiative, and commitment to service demonstrated by Tanque Verde students throughout Southern Arizona.

Congratulations, Monica, on this outstanding achievement — Hawk Yeah!
