Club Guidelines

Procedures for attaining club status at Tanque Verde High School (TVHS) are derived from TVUSD Governing Board Policy and will be considered on a case by case basis, according to the following criteria:

  • Student clubs are student organizations that have a designated and acknowledged partnership with an academic, administrative or athletic unit within TVHS. School sponsored clubs may be fundraising or non-fundraising.  Fundraising clubs have funding support available through fundraising efforts, tax credit donations, etc.

  • Membership is composed solely of TVHS students.

  • A club is a group of 4 or more students meeting consistently for a common or established purpose.

  • Student Clubs/Teams must have a TVHS approved sponsor who will be responsible for student supervision and student conduct, actions and activities while meeting under his/her supervision.

  • A statement of purpose, proposed officers (fundraising clubs) and proposed faculty sponsor is presented to the Student Council for consideration as an approved student club.  The Student Council will submit their recommendation to TVHS Administration.

  • The TVHS Administrator will approve/deny the request.  If a request is denied, a written explanation will be provided to the staff member who volunteered to be the sponsor.

  • All student clubs will be re-established on an annual basis..

  • Club members will be expected to adhere to all district and school rules, codes of conduct and dress code.

  • All fundraising clubs will have an anti-discrimination clause in their bylaws and as part of their mission/vision.

  • Students who violate the anti-discrimination clause and the code of conduct may lose membership in the opportunity to serve as an officer.

In secondary schools, clubs, including, but not limited to clubs engaging in religious, political, philosophical or other kinds of speech, shall not be recognized as school sponsored clubs. These meetings may not be run by faculty or staff members nor held in an official capacity on TVUSD campuses.  The club may not advertise on campus using school resources such as hanging signs on walls or buildings, advertising on school announcements or use school newsletters.
